Forest Whitaker – Growing Up With Dr. King
as Forest Whitaker so eloquently put it, most black American families grew up with a picture of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in their
household and although we have come a long way in attaining equal rights we still have a long way to go to truly be treated as equals.
While bridging the generations we must not forget that segregation was not that long ago and the freedoms & rights we enjoy today are because of
the sacrifices our relatives endured before us.
Today we honour Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. for having his
vision of equality for all people and the courage to stand up even in the face of violence towards him and his family.

Proud Of Our History, Blacks in Canada
There are many Canadian blacks who have been influential in the progress of African Canadian culture in Canada.
We would like to acknowledge and honour those African Canadians who sacrificed their lives for the freedoms we have today and lift up the future generations of black people who continue to help build this great nation of Canada.
