The First American Female Millionaire

February 4, 2021 By albert

We have to admit that when we saw this video we smiled because Madam CJ Walker was definitely ahead of her time. Who would’ve thought an orphaned Black female growing up in the Jim Crow era would create an entrepreneurial business model that still reigns supreme today.

Madam CJ Walker was the first self-made female millionaire in American history. When she passed away she left 1/3 of her fortune to her daughter and the other 2/3 to Black charities. Not only did she overcome the colour barrier for Black women, she overcame the gender barriers placed upon women and left a business model for entrepreneurs of all races to follow for generations to come. Through it all, she achieved financial success and was able to help other Black women through employment opportunities within her business.

The videos below tell the true story of a Black woman who achieved the American Dream despite the circumstances and obstacles of racism and discrimination.

Quick Overview: Here’s a short video which describes her rise in the beauty industry.

Mini Bio:This is a narrated short film of Madam CJ Walker’s life.

In Depth Look: The video below provides a thorough view into the life and legacy of Madam CJ Walker as she rises from an orphan to become the first female millionaire.

Perspective: So ladies, when you’re going to get your “hair did” (lol), make sure to pause for the cause and pay respect to the true entrepreneurial pioneer of Black women’s hair products and a financial trailblazer for women of all races.
