Celebrating Black History
Let’s take a moment to honor Dr. Carter G. Woodson, the brilliant historian whose vision and dedication brought Black history to the forefront.
At a time when Black achievements were overlooked, he knew the power of preserving and sharing these stories not just for the Black community, but for the world.
His passion led to what we now celebrate as Black History Month, a time to recognize the achievements, struggles, and resilience of Black pioneers.
Dr. Woodson’s work wasn’t just about history it was about empowerment, identity, and justice. He understood that knowing our past shapes our future, and he devoted his life to ensuring that Black excellence and perseverance would never be erased.
As we celebrate Black History Month, let’s continue his mission by learning, sharing, and uplifting these stories all year long. Thank you, Dr. Woodson, for lighting the way.

This is a video that tells us why we even need to have Black History Month.
Reflection:
Black History Month holds a deep, personal significance for me. Growing up, I witnessed the struggle for recognition, the fight for civil rights, and the quiet but powerful resilience of my parents and elders who paved the way for my opportunities today.
In the U.S., I saw how history was often rewritten or ignored, making Dr. Carter G. Woodson’s mission even more important. In Canada, I learned that Black history is just as rich but often overlooked in mainstream narratives.
For me, this month is more than just a celebration, it’s a reminder of the sacrifices, the triumphs, and the work still left to do. It’s about honoring my parents and ancestors, embracing my identity, and ensuring that future generations know they stand on the shoulders of giants.
