Today we honour W.E.B. (William Edward Burghardt) DuBois, the first African American to earn a PHD Social Sciences degree from Harvard University.
He gathered other black scholars on the Canadian side of Niagra Falls as hotels in the United States refused to allow them to meet because blacks gathering together was frowned upon, his vision to forward the equal rights of Black Americans was the foundation for the organization later called the N.A.A.C.P. (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People).
